Monsters…Grrrrrr!

In an effort to harness their creative thoughts, Digital Media Team Members used an exercise from the book Caffeine for the Creative Team to help foster new design ideas for their current project. Team Members were paired up and given the task of drawing monsters.  The pairs were limited to one large sheet of paper, had to start drawing at the same time, and could not lift their pencils from the paper once they started drawing.  When they finished, Team Members presented their creations to each other and hung them on the walls of the workcenter as Halloween decorations.

WebQuil and Digital Media Team Members went fishing. Not the type of fishing that involves a fishing pole and worms. The team members participated in a workshop that introduced them to the FISH! Philosophy. The Philosophy is centered around four components: be there, make their day, choose your attitude, and play. It is used by businesses to increase employee productivity, make the workplace more enjoyable, and engage customers. During the workshop team members watched a video that depicted FISH! in action, brainstormed ways to incorporate FISH! into their courses, and drew a comic strip illustrating team members utilizing the components.

On September 21st, Mrs. Burge visited the Satellite Center to announce the winning logo and certificate design for the LNCE.  With her futuristic take, Renetta Hood secured a win with eight votes.  Mrs. Burge also had a few surprises of her own when she announced that she would be paying each Digital Media class one hundred dollars for their services and twenty five dollars to the winner, Renetta Hood. Mrs. Burge also gave team members suggestion and feedback on their designs. At the end of each meeting, everyone enjoyed themselves as they took pictures and reflected on their accomplishments.

My design may not have won, but the experiece was amazing! Plus, I came close…

Digital media team members recently traveled to Baton Rouge to present their logo and certificate designs for the Louisiana Network for 21st Century Education. The role of the newly formed group is to bring together the Louisiana schools that are part of the New Tech Network. Team members Gavin Brehm, Tyler Corkern, and Ruama Marciano participated in some of the meeting activities as well as presenting the logo and certificate designs to the meeting attendees. After the presentations the LNCE was faced with the tough decision of voting on one of the designs. They will be notifying the winner shortly.

Digital media team members recently met with Sue Burge of the Burge Group to discuss designing a logo to be used by the Louisiana Network for 21st Century Education (LNCE). The LNCE is hosting its inaugural meeting next week and will be featuring the logo on variety of marketing and print material. Team members will be working in pairs for the project and have to pitch their final logo solutions to the client. In an effort to keep the project as authentic as possible, team members have less than a week to complete their designs and prepare their pitches.

Digital Media team members are in the process of designing identity packages for the different courses at the Satellite Center. Team members are meeting with their clients, sketching ideas, researching designs, colors, fonts, images, etc. Their purpose is to develop an “look” for their chosen course by creating a logo, business card, letterhead, envelope, and desktop background. When the team members have completed their designs they will be presenting the final products to their clients.

I designed a winning identity package for the Culinary Arts course.  The package consists of a logo, business cards, a desktop background, as well as templates for a letterhead, envelope, and stationary.
